Charlton Athletic

Charlton AthleticGeorge Turpin (1885 -1959), Trevor’s grandfather was a member of the local committee which saw the establishment of Charlton Athletic www.cafc.co.uk at the old sandpit known as the Valley in 1919. Born in the November of the 1946/7 season, (the season when Charlton won the FA Cup for the only time – so far – in the club’s history, beating Burnley 1-0), Trevor therefore had little choice but to be a lifelong – if semi-detached – supporter. Best match? Well, he wasn’t quite old enough to go to Wembley in 1947 but went with father Bill, for the First Division play-off against Sunderland in 1998 – when Charlton won on penalties after the match had reached 4-4 after extra time.
